In the last few years there has been a resurgence of the long
discredited cosmology of the "flat earth." The term "flat earth" is
actually a little misleading. The movement actually focuses around
ancient Jewish and near east conceptions of the world which is close to a
gigantic snow globe. Unsurprisingly, they are almost entirely made up
of extreme Christian fundamentalists or new age weirdos heavily
influenced by gnostic and occult texts from the near east.

The Flat Earth Model |
Foremost among these people is a man by the name of Rob Skiba. Skiba was
the darling of the "prophecy in the news" crowd with the likes of Tom
Horne and Steve Quayle until he was gradually ostricized because of his
increasingly extreme theological views. Skiba started in the KJV only
movement (which is already one of the most looney movements out there)
and slowly slid into extreme hebrew roots theology, bizarre and unique
eschatologies and finally into flat earth theorism.

Rob Skiba |
Skiba has had a long history of mental illness, not suprisingly. He has
been by his own admission repeatedly suicidal, he has had repeated
hallucinations and thinks he has been attacked literally by demons and
decides a christian contemporary song on his radio which mentions God
loving people is God himself speaking to Skiba about how special and
loved he is. To cap it all off, Skiba has announced that God gave him a
vision of him finishing his crappy x-files ripoff called "Seed" which he
is convinced will be the Christian Lost.
Skiba is also a huge fan of conspiracy theories. Most importantly is his
obsession with the moon landings (which he rejects completely on pretty
much no evidence) and various made up stories about Admiral Byrd.
|
Admiral Byrd |
Admiral Byrd was the youngest Admiral in American history and a major
explorer in the post-world war 2 era. He established the "little
America" base on the coast of Antarctica and explored the southernmost
continent.Antarctica has pretty brutal winters and even summers so
unsuprisingly Byrd lost some equipment and planes due to crashes and the
horrible weather. To Skiba these planes ran into the dome of the flat
earth. No evidence, no reasons given. Skiba also repeatedly spouts
stories of Byrd flying into the inner earth. I haven't been able to find
a single source for these stories, somehow I doubt they exist..
Are you starting to get the crazy that is Rob Skiba? Almost totally
delusion and egotistical he simply will ignore all evidence that
contradicts his cherished beliefs. I understand needing religious faith,
but when it is this incoherent and pathetic, its not a sign of
philosophical dedication or faith. Its a sign of madness.
